Training vests are supposed to be heavy, not uncomfortable. So why are so many so uncomfortable? There’s three things that primarily make them uncomfortable: chaffing, digging, and bouncing. To make the optimal Training Vest, we had to solve all 3. From working with some of the highest performing operators in the Military since 2019, we knew just how to do that.
PROBLEM: Chaffing.
Chaffing from vests primarily occurs on the sides of the neck and the low back. The neck is chaffed by shoulder straps that route too close to the neck and the low back is chaffed by a rear training / weight plate that hangs too low.
OUR SOLUTION:
Our vests are built different. Literally. Every other company has what’s called a bottom loading design, meaning, the training / weight plates load from the bottom. Ours are top loading though. So the way that we’re constructing our vests is very different than everybody else, and it gives us unique benefits. One of these benefits is the way that our shoulder straps function. They stay OFF and AWAY from your neck, and because of how extremely adjustable they are, low back chaffing is prevented by allowing you to adjust the rear training / weight plate height and find the perfect fit to YOUR body, no matter how big or small you are.
Pro tip: the higher you wear these vests the more comfortable, and you can wear these vests as high as you want!
PROBLEM: Digging.
Digging is caused by two things: 1) shoulder straps that don't have enough cushion, and 2) all the weight of the vest being carried by your shoulders alone.
OUR SOLUTION: we cushion the shoulder straps with 6mm of the highest quality neoprene foam available. To help take some of the weight off your shoulders, we designed the DSMC Elastic Cummerbund (which is the portion that wraps around your waist). Read more on that below!
PROBLEM Bouncing.
Bouncing is a result of not being able to wear your vest tight enough. On most vests, the tighter you wear it, the less you can breath, so you’re forced to make a compromise: either wear the vest tight to avoid bouncing but not be able to breath, or be able to breath but have your vest bounce all over the place while you run.
OUR SOLUTION:
The DSMC Elastic Cummerbund. It has 3 layers of 2 different types of high quality, MIL-SPEC, elastics which allow you to wear this vest much tighter than others. You can now wear the vest tight enough to prevent bouncing WITHOUT inhibiting your ability to breathe heavily during your workout. The tightness of the cummerbund also helps more than just your shoulders carry the weight of the vest by distributing some of the weight load to your hips.
As far as durability goes, this is the toughest out there. You might hear other companies mention their vests are made out of 500D, 600D, or even 1000D, but this is a double layer laser cut material comprised of 500D laminated to a 1000D backing. It’s the same material we use on our A-JAC and B-JAC Plate Carriers that have been used by Rangers, Green Berets, and other Special Operations members of the Military for years.
TRAINING PLATES:
Each Training Plate weighs 8 lbs each (16 lbs per set).
The training plates you put in your Training Vest will have a SIGNIFICANT impact on how comfortable it is!
Unfortunately, most training /weight plate offerings we see have no curve (insanity) or just a single curve (not ideal). Our multi-curve plates have the same tapers at the top and bottom edges that you’ll see on high end ballistic plates offered to the Military. If your body is curved (it is), your plates should be too.
Important: Our Training Plates are intended STRICTLY as workout equipment and should never be used as body armor. If you try to use these plates as body armor, you’re gonna have a bad time.
